Mountain Mayhem 2023 – An Update & a Call for Your Help! Your opinion matters…
We are still working towards getting Mountain Mayhem back on as a full 24hr race in June 2023 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the event that changed the face of MTB in the UK. We have a great venue with a proven course at Marston Lodge. We have dates reserved for the weekend of 16-18th June. However, as you might expect, it’s not all as simple as that.
Organising events has never been easy. It’s a big financial risk and certainly isn’t any kind of cash cow. The events industry got more than it’s fair share of a kicking through the pandemic and since then the costs of organising events have rocketed, and races like this are very expensive to put on. We have seen supplier costs go up by as much as 30% at a time when people are tightening their belts and questioning more of their spending. Likewise, support from the trade is harder and harder to come by as they too now must further scrutinise their decreasing marketing budgets.
In a nutshell, we could really do with hearing from you guys to help us work out if we can realistically go ahead with Mountain Mayhem 24hr this year. Chances are if we can pull it off it will have to be more of a stripped back kind of affair, focusing in on the things that matter the most and cutting out some of the other elements that are nice to have but not essential.
