Mayhem FAQs

Why's it MAYHEM.25?

MAYHEM.25 is the precursor to next year's return of the full 24hr race, but as it is a 6hr race this year it's 25% of a full Mayhem, or 0.25 of a Mayhem.  Also, 2023 sees the 25th anniversary of the event, so it just sounds nice that MAYHEM.25 preceeds it!

Can I race on a cyclocross/gravel/adventure bike?

Yes you can, it is pretty much up to you what you race on.  It is your responsibility to establish that you and your bike are up to the task at hand.  Don't be expecting endless sub-categories though.  It's your choice if you pick to use an awkward/slightly unsuitable bike!

Sorry, but E-Bikes & tandems are not permitted in Mountain Mayhem® 2022.

What's the best kind of bike to use?

That's up to you really!  You get to decide what the best bike for you is.  Mountain Mayhem® is a MTB event with a course designed for XC mountain bikes.  As such we still think that a good XC/trail bike is the best option to deal with the climbs & descents, twist & turns of the course.

Is the start gridded?

No, at the Le Mans start we leave it to the competitors to sort it out and self-seed. Those that are after the win get to the front, those that just want to get round line up further back. It's a system that has always worked well for us at Mayhem.  Remember it's a long race... don't get carried away early on, eh?

Is there an age limit?

Yes, all riders participating must be over 18 on the day of the race.  We are in discussion with our event insurance provider to see if we can allow younger riders to take part.

Does it get muddy?

Well, the race is held in the British Summer so there is a chance of rain.  So, yes, it could get muddy.  It could just as likely be extremely hot.  Or both over the course of the weekend.  Best thing to do is prepare for all eventualities - lots of tyre choices, lots of clothes, etc.

What facilities are there?

Quite a lot really; toilets, bike wash, caterers, retailers.  Keep checking back for up to date news and further details.

Are there electric hook ups?

No.  If you are bringing a caravan or motorhome we can not offer you anywhere to plug it in.

Can I bring my dog?

Certainly, well behaved dogs are welcome so long as you keep them on a lead and clean up after them.

When can I ride the course?

Official practice will be available from 9.30am-11.30am on Saturday 18th June.  Marston Lodge is a private site so do not ride outside of these stated times.
